What is this medication for?
This is a combination product that contains two medications, candesartan and
hydrochlorothiazide, used to treat high blood pressure. Candesartan belongs
to a family of medications known as angiotensin II receptor blockers.
Candesartan lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels. Hydrochlorothiazide
belongs to a family of medications known as diuretics (or "water
pills") and helps control blood pressure by getting rid of excess salt
and water.
Treatment is started with each of the ingredients separately (i.e., candesartan
and hydrochlorothiazide). Once the best dose of each individual ingredient is
found, the combination medication may then be used at the appropriate dose.
The full effects of candesartan - hydrochlorothiazide are usually seen within
4 weeks.
