Amiloride

amiloride

By Par Pharmaceutical

What is this medication for?

Amiloride is a potassium-sparing diuretic (water-pill) that is usually used in combination with a potassium-depleting diuretic (such as hydrochlorothiazide) to prevent or treat low blood potassium levels for people with high blood pressure or congestive heart failure. Diuretics work by making the body lose excess water and salt. Amiloride is called a potassium-sparing diuretic because it does not cause potassium to be lost from the body.
